Living Garden Wall - Construction

LivingGardenWall in the CBD,Perth

Earth & Water were commissioned by Broad, the main contractor, to install a living garden (green) wall as part of the courtyard landscaping work in an office building in the CBD.

The initiative was to build a new breakout area for employees to spend their lunch break and have meetings in a quiet and relaxing environment. This has been further enhanced by a 5 metre high green wall full of vibrant, water efficient plants. The space is undercover making it usable all year round.

Elmich modules were used as the plant growth base. These were installed inside a 13m long x 5 high steel structure constructed by a Steel Fabricator.

Green Wall Irrigation System

Irrigation of the plants is via a complex system of hosing and trickle pipework. Fertiliser is pre-mixed with the water and fed direct to the plants via the irrigation system.

Other features

Other features of the courtyard include a special order of 300 mm x 300 mm pavers, supplied by Granite and Stone, and a large timber deck supported by Elmich Versijack Spiral Pedestals’ to allow for complicated slopes and angles onsite. The versatility of this system allowed for adjustments in heights to be easily altered to meet the ground level changes where it was required.

The deck has been stained with a bespoke colour Ultradeck product designed to enhance the Blackbutt texture and grain. The addition of a UltraGrip non-slip product for safety has enhanced the final finish.
