Garden week saw Earth & Water showcasing their iron preventing bore water treatment system for the first time. A water treatment system designed specifically for bore water under the Swan Coastal Plain.

A Vibrant Revival

Perth Garden Festival was on Perth’s Langley Park this year and Earth & Water was fortunate enough to be invited. With a north-facing show garden and plenty of space we had an exceptional time meeting people from Perth and rural locations like Wongan hills and Darlington. The event was postponed by a week because of a surprise COVID lockdown. In the end people still had to wear masks when the event had over 1,000 people.

There was a diverse range of business on display. Our favourites were No Frills Organic Fertilisers, Green Earth Enterprises & the Westwinds Gin Masterclass.

It was great opportunity to hear of the different water-based problems people are facing and how they are dealing with them.

Our Show Garden

Perth Garden Festival is all about the experience; with interactive stands, starting conversations and being exposed to new ideas. We chose to showcase our core services of irrigation, water treatment and vertical living walls by encouraging people to walk around and see up close each of the displays.

Mike Trimble, national sales manager at HR Products, spent time on the stand meeting peopel and discussing in detail the technical aspects of the problems they were dealing with. Anything from water meters to new technlogy in self-locking PVC joiners and Hydrawise Smart Controllers, Mike was able to advise on.

Brendan & Richard, both account managers at Grundfos, were also on the stand providing technical advise on bore and variabel speed pumps as well as MP rotator sprinkler heads.

The interactive nature of our show garden gave us a great platform to have in-depth conversations with our clients and spend time discussing problems they face.

Live Demonstrations – Bore Water Treatment Systems

We mounted one of our residential bore water treatment systems and had live demonstrations showing how it removed iron from bore water. The water we used was actually taken from one of our clients bore water systems so it had iron totals (fe) of over over 25 parts per million or milligrams per litre.

In this picture the filter is in its rinse stage that comes after it backwashes excess iron from the sand filter which is why it is clear.

The majority of the iron treater systems we have installed so far have been in the Perth metro, however we are quickly learning that there are many people living in semi-rural places such as Upper Swan and down to Wellard have iron issues too. They are often using water with greater dispersal areas and for livestock.

Irrigation

Our irrigation demonstration automatically rotated through a series of irrigation programs for the different types of irrigation systems that we specialise in. This turned out to be excellent as they were people from all walks of life with their own specific requirements.

Irrigation on display:

  • Lilac subsurface grey water dripline
  • UniRam ASXR dripline featuring embedded copper-oxide and anti-siphon pressure compensated drippers.
  • Aries dripline for durable and uniformity widely used on crop irrigation
  • Waterwise sprinklers from
  • Non waterwise sprinklers

Vertical Living Walls

A low-profile vertical living wall framed our show garden with Pink Gerberas and luscious green Acacia Honeybuns supplied by Benara Nurseries. The hanging pots we used are best used in small residential installations as they can be removed easily and ongoing maintenance is minimal.

This is in comparison with the modular system that we use in commercial settings such as at Concerto Apartments – the tallest residential building in WA at the time of the show and visible from our show garden.

We found that many people are wanted to install hanging vertical living walls in smaller spaces such as townhouses and apartment terraces.
