Caring For Water And Country

This year’s National Water Week in Perth is captured in the theme of Caring For Water And Country which aims to recognise the how water is interwined into our culture and life in Perth.

This year there is special emphasis on understanding how the Australian First Nations people have had a symbotic relationship with water for thousands of years before us.

We are in our second year of our Waterwise Perth Action Plan which is a strategic plan to reduce the negative impacts of urbanisation on water use and meet increasing demand.

Achievements So Far

In a press release this week from Minister of Water’s office, the following milestones were detailed.

Major achievements delivered through the plan to date include:

 

• 300 million litres of water saved through the Leak Assist Rebate Scheme;
• 92 million litres of water saved through the Water-efficient Showerhead Swap Scheme;
• 142.7 million litres of water saved through retrofitting of public housing with water-efficient fixtures;
• 49,000 students participated in the Waterwise Schools Program;
• 84,000 waterwise plants planted across Perth and Peel suburbs; and
• 3,500 trees planted across 18 Perth and Peel local governments.

Our Role

Earth & Water has had a long working relationship with Water Corporation in several forms. We are a certified Waterwise Garden Irrigator and also a preferred vendor for their latest rebates.

Water Corporation is influential to achieving objectives in our Waterwise Perth Action Plan because they design rebates that reward waterwise products and services.

New Rebates

1. Sprinkler Service – A free irrigation service to check and repair leaks as well as set times for summer.
2. Weather Smart Irrigation Rebate – $300 to the supply and install of a smart irrigation controller that optimises run times for weather conditions.

Earth & Water is certified to carry out both of these rebates.
