This page breaks down the on-going costs involved with maintenance of the typical bore water treatment system in Perth.

Two of the three major water treatment componenets need servicing.  The 15 litre chlorine dosing tank needs replenishing and the sand filter needs to be emptied of iron that it has captured.

Frequency of servicing is seasonal and is directly related to daily water usage. In summer, we use more water and this equates to faster chlorine depletion and greater accumulation of iron in the sand filters.

See below for a detailed breakdown.

Backflushing & Rinsing

This is what happens when your iron bore water treatment system is working correctly.

The image on the left is showing iron being removed from the sand filter during a standard backflush.

All the iron that accumulated since the last service is expelled from the system.

The image on the right is the bore water after completing a standard service.

Homeowners can expect to acheive themselves by following the handover manual or we can complete it as part of a regular  maintenance schedule.

Chlorine Dosing Unit

Your 15 litre tank of chlorine must always have chlorine or the performance of your bore water treatment system will immediately drop and your stain will return.

In summer, 15 litres of chlorine will last between 21 and 30 days depending on your water consumption habits.

In winter it will last longer as you used less water.

We recommend home owners carry out the chlorine replenishment themselves, however when this is not an option we will do regular services.

Cost
Chlorine costs $20 for 15 litres at hardware shops and such as bunnings and comes to approximately $200 a year.

Sand Filter Maintenance

The sand filter fills up with captured iron and becomes less efficient as more iron accumulates.

Larger residential and commercial bore water treatment systems have auto-backflushing and rinsing capabilities but the average residential system has to be manually serviced.

Just like the chlorine dosing unit, frequency of servicing is seasonal.

It is a straightforward process that takes less than 30 minutes, once a month and is usually done at the same time as when changing the chlorine.

Cost
$0 – When homeowners complete it by following the handover documentation.

Spring Service

The typical bore water treatment system needs one major maintenance a year in August or September. We complete these in conjuction with irrigation Spring Services to prepare water systems for summer.

By running through the system, inspecting the major water treatment components and fine tuning it for summer, you mitigate small problems from snowballing into larger, expensive ones.

It is important to service your system in August or September to give your garden and lawns their best opportunity to thrive in spring.

Cost
$350 – once a year
